A very touching, tearful story. Extremely enjoyable despite the sometimes violent and agresive nature of the main characters.
Dusty Macleod is caught in the middle of the desert outside of Las Vegas after finding out the man shw thought she was to marry, as well as her boss, intended to prostitute her to pay for his gambling debts. Walking in the desert for hours, she is confronted by three young men who attempt to rape her and end up taking her only remaining possesions, her purse. Coming to her rescue, Leon 'Camp' Campbell joins the frey, but Dusty is beyond reason and attacks him also. Finally left with Camp and the men gone with her purse, she pores her sense of loss and desperation in to an attack on him. Finally he gets her in to his big rig, and the set off for the nearest town.
As they journey together, they both discover each one has an agressive, violent spark they set off in each other. Dusty is hiding her feelings of desperation and loneliness from a life on her own, while Camp is dealing with being a failure to his family, and on the run from the law. Both encourage the other to not give up, and dream that life can be better.
Really, a great story.
